According to Daniel Brookoff, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis, and Associate Director, Comprehensive Pain Institute, Methodist Hospitals of Memphis, chronic pain continues to be perceived as a character logic disorder rather than a serious, potentially fatal, medical disease. The general lack of understanding of how persistent pain becomes magnified and ingrained prevents many patients from receiving the level of care that they need to regain control of their lives and resume normal activities.

For those of us experiencing the myriad conditions that produce chronic pain, this is stating the obvious. We've been doing our own research for years, looking for ways of coping with chronic pain while valiantly trying to continue our lives. We, at Healing Tides, present the following information in order to facilitate your own research. This site is about research, study, and hope. For medical advice please see your medical practitioner.

Teri Goodell used her Reiki skills in conjunction with Massage Therapy before she stopped working to home school her children.  She began researching Fibromyalgia when she was diagnosed in 2001. Her research extended to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome when she received that diagnosis in 2004. Her background in Health Sciences led her to search for answers the medical establishment didn't seem to be able to provide at the time. Teri's research and study evolved from how to cope with Fibromyalgia and EDS specifically, to how to cope with chronic pain in general and then into coping skills for Life Challenges. Her Social Work background led her to share what she'd been learning and putting into practice and her Life Coaching practice was born.
